2024 NSSA State Ride Reports from the President and Vice President

Just returned from the annual state ride at Steamboat Lake Outpost. This is about 30 miles north of Steamboat Springs. A great place to ride as most of you have seen the pictures on the Nebraska State Snowmobile Association Facebook page. On the first day, Thursday, a group of us rode out west of the lodge to California Park, which is a large area to play and just roam around in the trees. Friday was another day of groups riding in whichever direction they would like to go. Our group went east and then south and again found some good snow and play areas. You could go west or to the east of the lodge. Everyone arrived by Friday so that evening was a good time to visit with everyone that we had maybe not had the chance to since the last ride or our convention. On Saturday we had our cookout held east and south of the lodge where we had 29 sledders. We had three days of sun and nice temps. In conjunction with the cookout, we had a poker run. Saturday evening we all got together for drinks and food and turned in the poker hands. This was a great time to visit and enjoy everyone’s company. Many door prizes were donated and we had enough that just about everyone got at least 2-3 prizes. I want to thank everyone for the donations. I am not sure but I think we have been having these Sate Rides for about 30 years, hopefully, somebody can remember for sure. I think they are great and hope to see more next year. I see it as a chance to see some of our members that otherwise we never get a chance to get together with. Our next state function is our State Picnic at Ponca State Park August 2nd-3rd and our State convention in Kearney at the Holiday Inn November 22nd-23rd. Think about attending them or at least one or the other. We would enjoy seeing you and talk about the past season or upcoming one.

Another Nebraska State Snowmobile Association annual ride is in the books. This years trip to Steamboat Lake Outpost was another good one. Of course anytime you can be out snowmobiling it’s not a bad day! We had almost perfect weather, snow was good and the camaraderie was great. The only complaint to be had was with the lack of grooming due to the machine breakdowns. By Friday loaner machines were brought in and many of the trails were able to be groomed.

I have to give a shout out to the Team at Steamboat Lake Outpost. They were friendly and made sure we had anything that we needed. The facilities were in great shape. They also now offer very reasonably priced rental sleds which some members used.

In all I had a great trip. I’m glad to be a part of NSSA. It’s always nice to visit with all the members who can make it. We are lucky that as an association we have so many members who devote the time to our great cause.
